Over the weekend, the Melrose Speech Team had two members competing at the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions (NIETOC), Andrew Traeger and Amelia Brower. Both represented our district so well and were poised, polished, and professional. They competed with thousands of speakers who qualified for the tournament from around the country, from all classes and states.
We were delighted to see Amelia break through the octafinals, but our excitement didn't end there. She then broke the quarterfinals and semifinals! Amelia wound up taking home a very fancy 11th-place trophy medal. She was the only Class A representative from MN to advance this far in the tournament, even beating out some national finalists from last year!
We have so much to be proud of in our district. Both Andrew and Amelia made an indelible impression on judges from all around the country. If you see them, I would encourage you to let them know they have a lot of support in the building.
