Superintendent Update 4/6/2020
As we continue to deal with the COVID-19 outbreak, I will be posting weekly updates on our website.
The first week and launch of our Distance Learning Plan (DLP) went very well last week. We know there are just a few households out there that do not have either internet connectivity or a hotspot to gain access to their students' homework. If you have not seen our DLP, it is also posted on our website.
One of the key expectations for parents is that we do not expect them to become the teacher. Within our DLP we make it very clear that our teachers will continue to engage their students and offer the needed assistance for their students to be successful.
Our Food Service workers and Paras are doing an exceptional job at providing food for the students that need it. Currently, we are serving over 515 students per day. Once again, please check our website for opportunities if you are not picking up lunches and breakfast.
This week, academically we will follow our school calendar. There will be no school on Thursday (4/9) and Friday (4/10) of this week. We also will have no school on Monday (4/13).
We will be delivering meals on Thursday (4/9) at the pick up sites. Three breakfasts and lunches will will be handed out on this day for Thursday, Friday and Monday. Normal delivery will resume on Tuesday (4/14).
At Melrose Area Public Schools, we continue to follow the directives of our Governor, Minnesota Department of Education and the Minnesota Department of Health. We continue to be optimistic that school may resume on May 5th. If it did, we could have an annotated spring sports schedule and graduation. We will wait to hear from the Governor to see what our next steps will be and look forward to best supporting our students.
