Superintendent Update 4/14/2020
After a long weekend break, it is time to get back to work for both the staff here at the school and the students. Hopefully the long weekend provided a needed break from the implementation of our Distance Learning Plan (DLP).
At this time, staff that are still working in the school for our food service and childcare, we are encouraging them to wear masks. We continue to follow the guidance of the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
We continue to serve school lunches from our previous schedule of times and pick-up locations. Currently we are up to over 645 lunches/breakfast served per day. Many people have asked if this lunch program will help the school with any future funding. It does not. This current program is covered under a waiver we have received through the state and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). It is true that during a normal school year, the more lunches we serve with an authentic number of free/reduced lunches will help us with some funding provided by the state.
The roll out of our DLP continues to be largely dependent on technology. We continue to monitor and reach out to families to see how this is going. Please contact the building principal of your child if you are having problems.
One of the common issues we are hearing from parents are the many different ways their children are mentally dealing with the DLP. We recognize how difficult it is for many students to socially isolate themselves even in the era of social media. A lot of what is occurring with many students, particularly older students is the loss of milestones. Please see the web address below of a blog that will help you understand and talk to your older child(ren) about this loss of milestones.
