Superintendent Update 5/5/2020
We hope the break your students had over the weekend was a welcome break from the instructional learning during the Professional Workshop days the teaching staff had last Friday and yesterday. A lot of work was done over these two days with webinars provided by the state of Minnesota, collaboration with teachers with their grade levels or department, and general planning for the remainder of the year. We decided in the remaining days left this year there would also be two additional days where there would be no new instruction. These two days are May 13 and May 20. These two days will be used to get students falling behind time to get caught up before the end of the year. These two days occur in the only two weeks left with 5 days.
As a district we also recognize that some students are falling behind. We will continue to reach out and work with those families to make sure students are academically progressing to successfully advance to the next grade level next fall. Please continue to work with your child(ren) to keep them on task and up to date on their school work.
A note on our last School Board meeting. Since this was the first meeting the board did over Zoom, we did a push notification to let everyone know this was happening. At the next board meeting we will not be doing this. We will publish on our website the day of the meeting in the news portion and the password for the Zoom meeting. This is the same platform almost all of our students are using for communication with their teachers. We ask you that if you attend the meeting to please be prompt in your arrival to the meeting. We can start allowing people into the meeting at 6:55 pm. If you show up later than 7 pm, you may not get into the meeting. We will have a seperate password if you want to attend the Open Forum component of the board meeting that runs from 6-6:30 pm the night of the board meeting.
At this time we are also waiting to hear from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) in regard to holding any large gatherings yet this year. There has been a lot of discussion on this topic including graduation. We were told that information from MDH would be coming this week.
Please continue to monitor our website for any new information as it becomes available. We are in the process of planning summer events at this time. However, we also know these events will be different from the past and may be a variation of the DLP.
