Superintendent Update 7/27/2020
We were hoping the information for the fall start would have come out today. However, we were informed last week the decision will be announced on Thursday July 30th. In the past the information had been leaked out to the press the morning of a big announcement. Typically Governor Walz does his press conference around 2 p.m.
In-person learning for all students: All students attending school with enforcement of social distancing and other safety protocols in place.
Hybrid model with strict social distancing and capacity limits: Similar to #1 but with only 50% capacity of students in the building.
Distance Learning Only: Very similar to what we did this past spring.
The mask mandate announced last week may play a big role in what happens in regard to our fall opening. The wearing of a mask would play a significant role in the mitigation plan of students either returning to school full time or through a hybrid system. With the “Face Requirements and Recommendations under Executive Order 20-81” rolled out last Thursday, we are still looking at the order to determine the best utilization of how this mandate plays in educational planning for this fall. Between now and the beginning of school, wearing masks under this mandate will give you and your child(ren) time to adjust to wearing a face covering. If all students do return to school either under Scenario #1 or #2 above, your child may find a face covering they feel comfortable that will not interfere with their academic progress.
As our committees continue to plan for the three scenarios listed above one major consideration is the hybrid model. This is the most difficult of the three in regard to planning for a fall opening.
As a committee and as a school district we will be working towards what is best for our students and to what extent a hybrid system will impact their learning both at school and at home. We also recognize elementary students not being able to attend school everyday may be problematic. In our Hybrid scenario, we are working out the details on how elementary students may be able to attend everyday.
