Superintendent Update 10/23/2020
This message is coming earlier than usual because of the changes that will need to be implemented within the next week. Following the release of the numbers yesterday and after meeting with the Incident Command Team, we will need to make a significant change in our educational model.
The overall numbers in our county and within our district continued to worsen and predictions for next week show a significant increase in the number of COVID-19 cases. The numbers within our building continue to be stable, however, it is becoming more difficult to staff our building because of the number of staff we have had to quarantine. Quarantining staff has come as a result of direct contact they have either had within our building or contact outside the school day. The numbers within our county and the region are having the greatest impact on our quarantining.
We will need to shift to Policy Option #4. Our elementary will continue in our current hybrid model with all students in the building, attending school every day. The middle school and high school will shift to distance learning. The shift to distance learning for the middle school and high school will occur on Monday, November 2. In order to prepare for this change and possible future changes we will have no school for grades Prek-12 on Friday, October 30.
Moving to distance learning is certainly not where we want to be but it is what we have been anticipating for the last couple of weeks. Keeping our current models in place through the first couple of months has allowed our staff and students time to prepare and train for distance learning.
More information will be coming out next week. However, we felt it was important to let our community know as soon as possible to be able to plan for these adjustments.
